Back To The Futuristic Fashion Past - Sonar Project Style

Photo of a man wearing baggy 2000s style streetwear fashion in Japan

A street snap from around twenty years ago in one of the many magazines covering the Ura Harajuku scene.
The photo was actually not taken in Harajuku, but in Nagoya. By the time I arrived in Japan, the influence of the Ura Harajuku movement had spread all over Japan - far beyond its source.

I really like the suede Puma Clyde Hi-Tops in burnt orange.

According to the magazine caption... The Jacket is by Lith Tokyo, Pants by Sonar Project and 'Kyasuketto' (casquette style hat) by Victim.
I could find current information on Victim - now also known as VICTIM & CO, but there were very few details on Lith Tokyo and Sonar Project.

Image of Japanese Street Fashion Jacket with Futuristic Graphic Design on the back.

However, I did find this vintage jacket by Sonar Project.

The graphic motif reads 'SOUND NAVIGATION RANGING' and I really like the angular, hard graphic lines. As a piece of Tokyo Street Style history, I think it is impressive and looks futuristic.

The graphic looks to me... like some sort of abstract space craft functioning as an audio turntable stylus.

Scouring through old photos, I was really impressed how Japanese Fashion was far ahead of its time.
