I really like the mix of pastels, metallics and marble style spectrum of colours from this magazine. The quality of light in the photo, reminded me of sitting in Shibuya early in the morning - humidity rising just before summer - knowing that the city was about to go off the charts by dusk.

This feature is actually about spring, but you get the idea. Open toe high heels in intense colours were big in the summer months. I would often hang out on a concrete bench nearby Dogenzaka Street (one of Shibuya's most exciting streets) just watching the streets thinking of what adventure I was about to get up to later that afternoon.

Looking at these pictures, you can get a feeling of many colour spectrums flowing through the streets of Shibuya at the time. In the early to mid-2000s, new styles and products would flood through shops at hyper rapid speed as the market was huge.

While reading through the product descriptions on this page, I noticed more than one reference to a store called Toco Pacific - which many Gyaru called 'Toco-Pashi' for short.

I actually used to work right around the corner from the shop in Aoyama around this time, but never went inside. Researching the store, I discovered that it was much loved within the Gyaru Fashion World and was frequented by a lot of Japanese celebrities. Carrying an eclectic range of foreign brand name imports in vivid colours - it was highly influential in Shibuya Street Style at the time.

The store no longer exists. It is sad that a lot of the landmarks that were key to Tokyo Street Fashion have completely disappeared. Even though the physical space is still there, the culture that once flourished in these spaces has changed over time.

当時のギャルたちの心の中に今でも存在している店だと思います。

It is a store that still exists in the hearts of Gyaru - that lived, created and experienced the culture at the time.
