Grand Canyon was actually one of the most influential fashion brands in Ura Harajuku for a period of time. They made a lot very detailed graphic varsity style jackets, utilising deeper waves of thought and abstract concepts. Those jackets are now - very rare. It was also a brand that was hard to find in Harajuku, unless you knew exactly where to go.

Grand Canyon　(グランド・キャニオン)は、２０００年代の非常に影響力のあるブランドでした。あの頃、 GDCの細かい刺繡が入っていたジャケットが好きでした。そのジャケットは今ではレアです。ビンテージサイトでしか見つかりません。

The shoes in the photo are by Grand Canyon. At first glance, I thought they were a specialty colourway of Vans Chukka Boots - a classic suede mid top skate shoe, that I always liked. I had watched H-Street and Plan B pro skater - Matt Hensley in early 90s videos wearing them and had imagined what it would have been like to skate in them. I like the styling of the navy and beige suede in the Grand Canyon version of this classic skate shoe.

KNOT was a brand developed by the staff at Made In World in 1990 - based on the taste and style of the shop staff themselves.

ノット（KNOT）は１９９０年に、メイド・イン・ワールドのスタッフが企画したファッションブランドでした。

Made In World had two major stores in Tokyo - one in Harajuku and the other on Shibuya's Fire Douri (Douri means Road or Street in Japanese.) The Harajuku store was actually called "Made In The World." The store opened in 1980 and closed down around 2015.

メイド・イン・ワールドは東京に２店舗ありました。 渋谷のFIRE通りにメイド・イン・ワールドと原宿にメイド・イン・ザ・ワールドでした。「THE」という単語を使用することで、 店の名前に小さなバリエーションがありました。店は１９８０に開店し、２０１５年に閉店しました。

Made In World carried a select range or brands such as Uniform Experiment, corefighter, COOTIE and others. Which were all brands that were quite exclusive in the Harajuku scene, but much easier to discover in the store on Shibuya's Fire Douri.

ノットとグランド・キャニオン以外にも、コア・ファイター、クーティーと他のストリートブランドもありました。 渋谷店では、裏原宿限定商品とハードエッジな渋谷ストリートスタイルをミックスした雰囲気がありました。 渋谷スタイルと原宿スタイルも同じく好きなので、店のコンセプトがパーフェクト・バランスでした。

One end of Fire Douri is right on the edge of Shibuya as it meets Harajuku and Meiji Street. You could walk from one area into the other without noticing that you had crossed into another fashion world. (Both areas are part of the larger Shibuya-ku or ward area - but however linked, they are still considered separate centres of activity.)

That is the funny thing about Fire Douri (in the area toward Harajuku). On face value the fashion in the stores seemed the same as either Shibuya or Harajuku - but it wasn't. It was at the time, almost its own little sub-genre - where you could find obscure and hard to find Japanese domestic brands, undiscovered overseas imports mixed with a harder edged Shibuya Street fashion style. It is also a lost world, because over time - beyond the 90s and reaching into the 2010s the retail landscape changed - never to be the same again.

Fire通りの面白いポイントは（原宿と明治通り方面向かうエリア）, 見た目で他の渋谷の道に大きい違いがないみたいです。でも、そうでもないと思います。 場所はちょうど渋谷と原宿のボーダーラインです。９０年代と２０００年代に、Fire通りは独自のスタイルとサブジャンルがありました。新しいインポートのブランド、 アンダーグラウンドのドメスティックブランドとUSの古着もありました。

Fire Douri was at the time, a small space between one world of fashion and another, neither here or there. You can explore and read about Fire Douri in my book -- Chapter 6. It is one of the important scenes to me in the book, but perhaps only to me personally.

This novel is a book between worlds. On the surface it is about experiencing an intense adventure in Ura Harajuku and the Japanese Fashion World, but it isn't actually about just that.

It is a book that exists in this world and another - both at the same time. It is made in the world, but not of this world.
