This feature from a few years ago covers a futuristic classic - The Reebok Instapump Fury OG. When I first arrived in Tokyo, it was a very popular shoe, but not in one particular subculture. I used to see people wearing the Instapump Fury from Harajuku to Ueno - mixing and matching the design with eclectic, colourful, straight up street styles - to high fashion coordinates like Pleats Please and Commes Des Garcon.

At the time, a designer in Melbourne - Tina Borg made cyber style clothing, very popular among Australia's techno and rave scenes. I remember visiting Tina's studio where I bought an XL pair of baggy futuristic pants direct. She was experimenting with different types of high-tech fabrics. The pants had an assortment of mesh pockets and zippers combined with a blue matte finish contrast and semi reflective segments.

I think Tina's designs were ahead of their time - they would be the sort of designs you would see in modern techwear today. I enjoyed wearing the pants she made coordinated with the Instapump OGs.
